Race car driver Dan Wheldon has been killed today in a deadly IndyCar 300 in Las Vegas on Sunday October 16, 2011. He won the Indy 500 this year.
Wheldon was born on June 22, 1978. He was 33. He was married and a father of two children.

I was truly shocked about finding out this news. It unfortunately reminds us that motor race is still indeed a dangerous hobby in spite of the massive safety improvements made in the last two decades. Dan Wheldon was obviously top-of-the-line English racing drivers around and to never have him around the scene representing the best of British in America is devastating.
A massive loss to Indy racing and motorsport in general. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
