According to Yahoo Sports,  has started throwing to teammates, head coach Jim Caldwell told the Indianapolis Star. He hasn’t returned to practice and there’s no indication he’ll participate in a full practice before the end of the season. However, this is a big step in his recovery.

The more important issue will be to see what kind of velocity he can get on his throws, as the nerve problem in his neck was limiting his strength before his single-level anterior fusion procedure. Manning is still on the active roster, so technically he could play this season. However, Colts owner Jim Irsay said he didn’t envision Manning returning and no one expects him to play.

The bigger question for Manning and the Colts is to determine his status for 2012 as Indy faces a decision whether to pay him a $28 million roster bonus in early March.  QB Peyton Manning, just over three months removed from neck surgery, has ramped up his rehab to include more throwing.

Manning has had three neck operations since the end of the 2009 season, and there is no timetable for his possible return to practice or game action. He said on Dec. 2 that he had already started throwing.
