On the outside, life as a top-shelf racecar driver seems ideal. Driving fast for a living, getting paid boatloads of money for wins and sponsorship deals, traveling around the country – if not the world – all seems to have the making of a dream life. What many of us on the outside don’t realize, though, is that achieving your dream comes with consequences, drawbacks and sacrifices.

A new reality video series, Flat Out, focuses on Dylan Kwasniewski, a 17-year-old racer who has already captured the K&N West title, climbing one of the rungs on the NASCAR ladder that will lead to a race seat in the Sprint Cup Series. At 17, though, Kwasniewski is forced to balance the normal demands of being a teenager with being one of the youngest and most talented drivers in the NASCAR development pool. The series from Autoblog parent AOL just saw its first season go live, and it follows Kwasniewski and his mom as they manage life in the K&N East Series from a base in North Carolina with his high school life at home in Las Vegas.

Take a look below for the first episode of the series, a seven-minute whirlwind that sees Dylan running a race on the east coast while preparing for one of the great rites of passage for American teenagers – prom.
