Nicknamed”Xiaolian” Suffered Severe Nasal Trauma…Surgeons Grow Nose On His Forehead

Surgeons at a hospital will transplant a new nose grown on a patient’s forehead to his nasal spot in Fuzhou City, east China’s Fujian Province.

The patient, nicknamed”Xiaolian”, 22, suffered a severe nasal trauma in a serious car accident in August 2012.

He just received basic medical remedy rather than a plastic surgery out of financial concerns following the accident.

After months, however, his condition was infected due to absence of surgery and his nasal cartilage started to be corroded, making it impossible for surgeons to do nasal reconstruction.

However, surgeons came up with an idea of growing a nose on Xiaolian’s forehead — a medical practice never tried in the world.

The way is to grow the nose by placing a skin tissue expander onto Xiaolian’s forehead, cutting it into the shape of a nose and planting a cartilage taken from his ribs.

Now after nine-month growth, the surgeons said, the nose is in good shape and transplant will be performed soon.

“We have gone through the hardest step and now it is not difficult to carry out transplant surgery,” said Guo Zhihui, Director of Plastic Surgery Department of Xiehe Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University.

He added Xiaolian will start a normal life once a successful surgery is done.

5-year-old pilot in #China:

Duoduo, a 5-year-old boy, has broken the Guinness record for the youngest person to fly a light airplane alone. The boy’s father proudly calls himself an “eagle dad,” which has stirred up a heated debate about proper #parenting. Your thoughts?

Duoduo 5 year-old pilot

A man known for his tough teaching style is trying to get his 5-year-old son recognized as theworld’s youngest pilot.

At the request of the father, He Liesheng, the boy, nicknamed Duoduo, flew a total 47 minutesin two flights around the Beijing Wildlife Zoo in Gu’an county, Hebei province, on Saturdayafternoon. The feat followed Duoduo’s 20 days of flight lessons at a private club.

“I am preparing video clips for Guinness World Records and the World Record Association toget certification for my son as the youngest pilot in the world,” the father said in a telephoneinterview from his home in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on Monday.

“Duoduo is very excited about his brave act and is in high spirits.”

The father added that he had asked for a day off school for his son on the first day of the newsemester so that the boy could stay at home and give media interviews.

The father made headlines last year after the media reported that he had forced the youngchild to run naked in the snow. The reports generated controversy and gained He thenickname “Eagle Dad”.

His next plan for the boy is trekking through Hoh Xil, China’s least-populated area, in thenorthwestern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The journey will consist of walking, riding abicycle and unicycle, and driving a car in certain sections, he said. They will set off on thejourney as early as the end of October, he added.

The father, 44, considers himself a new Chinese parental archetype in the tradition of the so-called tiger mom.

“Gradually, the public started to accept my education approach”, which features a variety ofchallenges to help the boy become tough-minded, he said.

The father previously arranged for the boy to take part in an international sailing competition inShandong province in August 2012, and to climb the 3,776-meter Mount Fuji in Japan in 15hours one month later.

In the most recent feat, the boy, dressed in professional flight gear, flew as high as 100 metersin the air twice on Saturday. The small plane, which has two seats and weighs about 100 kg,took off from a runway in the middle of a field.

A trainer was seated behind the boy in the plane, giving directions. But the trainer stretched outhis arms during the flight to show the boy was controlling the aircraft.

The father said the boy likes car and airplane models, and the idea of having him pilot a planecame up last year.

The boy learned quickly at the club, and the plane was revamped to make it easier for him tocontrol, he added.

“Safety is the top concern, absolutely,” he said. “We would never create an adventure at thecost of my son’s life.”

But still, the news generated mixed public reactions. “As a father, he ignores the feelings of thechild and only pursues his own purposes. Is that the education approach we aim for?” said ablogger on the Sina Weibo micro-blogging service.

Another blogger said: “I admire such a father. I have been an aviation enthusiast sincechildhood, but I didn’t have a farsighted father like him.”

Even He’s family is divided on his education methods.

“The men of the family support his method, while the older generation and women, such as theboy’s grandmothers and aunts, disagree with it,” He Lieheng, the father’s elder brother, said onMonday.

The essence of the father’s education technique is actually “teaching a child in accordance withhis or her aptitude”, He Lieheng added.

“From my point of view, traditional education focuses too much on textbook knowledge and failsto cultivate a child’s personality and ability to overcome challenges.”

Xiong Bingqi, a columnist on education issues, said that every family can adapt an educationapproach suitable for it, and a method suitable to one family may not be appropriate for others. “The essence of family education is communication.”

Douduo and his father He Liesheng

He Liesheng celebrates with his son, 5-year-old He Yide, after the boy successfully piloted a fixed-wingplane around Beijing Wildlife Zoo on Saturday. The “Eagle Dad” seeks to have his son recognized asthe youngest pilot in the world. [Provided to China Daily]

Chinese police have broken up a criminal ring accused of taking meat from rats and foxes and selling it as lamb in the country’s latest food safety scandal.

The Ministry of Public Security released results of a three-month crackdown on food safety violators, saying in a statement that authorities investigated more than 380 cases and arrested 904 suspects.

Among those arrested were 63 people who allegedly ran an operation in Shanghai and the coastal city of Wuxi that bought fox, mink, rat and other meat that had not been tested for quality and safety, processed it with additives like gelatin and passed it off as lamb.

The meat was sold to farmers’ markets in Jiangsu province and Shanghai, it said.

Despite years of food scandals — from milk contaminated with an industrial chemical to the use of industrial dyes in eggs — China has been unable to clean up its food supply chain.

The China Post news staff–Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi denied yesterday media reports that she had allegedly “interacted” with Bo Xilai, the former Communist Party boss of China’s Chongqing City in exchange for “huge” monetary gifts.

Zhang, who is currently shooting a new film in southern China, said on her personal microblog that many people “can take wind as rain” using their imaginations.

Her statement was taken as a denial of the media allegations about the sex scandal.

U.S.-based Chinese-language news website Boxun, the Apple Daily published in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and other Chinese-language media reported that the 32-year-old actress slept with Bo at least 10 times between 2007 and 2011.

Zhang was allegedly under investigation by the Chinese government for being paid to have sex with Bo, who was removed from his powerful political position after coming under investigation after the incident involving Wang Lijung, a former Chongqing vice mayor. Wang allegedly “defected” to the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu City, of Sichuan province, in February.

The media reports said that Zhang and Bo were first introduced by Bo’s associate, Xu Ming, 41, who is the founder and chairman of Dalian Shide Group when Bo was party boss in Dalian City.

Unconfirmed reports said that Xu confessed to paying Zhang 6 million Chinese yuan in 2007 to personally have sex with her for the first time.

Xu later negotiated a deal for Bo to have sex with Zhang for 10 million yuan.

The Chinese media reports estimated that Zhang’s sexual transactions with various rich and powerful figures have netted her 700 million yuan over the last 10 years, including 180 million yuan in cash from Xu alone.

Her wealth accumulated from prostituting herself was not taxed mainly due to intervention from Xu and some senior Chinese government officials, said the reports.

In 2009, Zhang was accused of cheating a married businessman of a huge sum of money, with whom she was alleged to be sexually involved with, while still engaged to an Israeli billionaire.

The Chinese media also reported in April that wealthy businessman Xu introduced more than 100 women to Bo for sex and that the women included household-name celebrities.

AWWW … Just like a scene taken from a Taiwan melodrama, Mandopop star Ella Chen and her Malaysian husband, Alvin Lai, held their lavish wedding reception at a hotel in Malacca last Saturday night.

Oh, boy, security at the event was tight! A dozen Rela members and 10 bodyguards were hired by the Lai family to keep pressmen and fans at bay.

A source from the hotel told Star2 that the groom paid an estimated RM112,000 for the wedding reception.

“He paid RM1,400 per table and asked for 80 tables,” the source added. “Alvin comes from a well-to-do family. His parents wouldn’t allow him to marry a superstar like Ella if he didn’t have the money.”

The couple’s romantic ivory white wedding extravaganza was attended by around 800 family members and friends of the 35-year-old groom who hails from Malacca.

Mind you, Chen, 30, had four costume changes at her Malaysian wedding do.

“Hosting our wedding reception here gives me a different feel,” said the blushing bride shortly before the feast began. “The weather is hot. But I’m happy and I’ll try to be a good Malaysian daughter-in-law (and wife).”

Asked if she’s used to being called Mrs Lai, a radiant Chen held her hubby’s hand and said, “I’m so used to it already.”

Their yam seng (toast) party ended around midnight.

Earlier in the morning, Chen had met her in-laws according to full Chinese wedding tradition, Hokkien-style.

While her hubby was offered two apples (for good luck) by her nephew as he arrived at the hotel in a Porsche Cayenne, she was sheltered with a hand-woven tray by a tai kam jie (the lady-in-waiting or chaperon) and wore a veil as she was whisked away to the Lai family mansion in Ujong Pasir.

The newlyweds served tea to the groom’s parents as a show of respect. They also offered prayers at the Lai ancestral altar.

The ceremony was witnessed by Chen’s parents who had flown in from Taipei to give the bride away.

Having stayed in Malacca since last Wednesday, the super busy couple returned to Taipei on Sunday.

“We have to put our honeymoon plans on hold ’coz we’re just too busy working,” Chen said. “No plans to have a baby for the next two years but if God wants to give us our bundle of joy soon, we’ll accept it happily.”

The couple had dated for a year before they tied the knot in a glitzy, star-studded affair in Taipei on May 5.

Hong Kong martial arts superstar Jackie Chan believes that his action days are numbered and would not be appearing in any more action titles.

According to Asian Bite, Chan said that he would be retiring from action movies after “Chinese Zodiac” because all the high kicks and vigorous tumbles have taken its toll on the 58-year-old, despite many who believe that he could still go on.

“It hurts, it really hurts. The shoulder, the ankle, it really hurts. You don’t know because I still look healthy,” he said while launching “Chinese Zodiac” at the Cannes.

Chan, who plays as a fortune-teller in “Chinese Zodiac”, added that the movie was a fulfillment of his most important film, after he had spent seven years writing, producing, directing and choreographing the fight scenes in the movie on his own.

“For the last ten years I’ve been choosing the director to direct me. This one I direct myself,” he said.

However instead of spending his quiet days gardening, cooking or bowling, Chan is not ready to step out of the limelight just yet, but is practicing his acting chops.

“When I look at Hollywood, at Robert De Niro, he can do anything – comedy, drama. Clint Eastwood who is 60-70 years old, he can still move. I said yes, that’s my goal.”

“Because action stars’ life is so short and an actor’s life is very long, I want to show audiences that I can act,” he said.

Hong Kong police recently revealed that 32-year-old Hong Kong music producer Lee Ming Ho is under investigation for allegedly raping a 23-year-old actress in his Vi-Max Music Studio at Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui on Monday, reported Hong Kong media.

Lee is currently out on bail and has since denied these accusations.

“I really didn’t do it. This whole incident has greatly affected me and my company! I don’t know if she (the young actress who accused him of rape) is out to make a name for herself!” Lee told Hong Kong media on Tuesday.

“I don’t even know why the police will look for me. Rape is a very serious accusation, if it is true, the police will definitely charge me. How is it possible that I am allowed bail!”

The identity of the young actress, who claimed to have been sexually violated while she was drunk at the music studio, is still a mystery, though senior TVB official Virginia Lok, has confirmed on Wednesday that she is an actress with TVB.

“As a woman, she (the alleged victim) immediately went to the police after meeting with such an incident (her alleged rape).

“I am very supportive of her. It is a very brave thing to do,” said Lok, before going on to urge young artistes to share their problems with their colleagues, and not use alcohol as a means of escape.

Lok’s revelation has inadvertently put every single TVB actress aged around 23 under suspicion and sparked renewed speculation over the identity of the alleged victim.V

Leslie Cheung Kwok-Wing (12 September 1956 – 1 April 2003), nicknamed Gor Gor (哥哥), which means elder brother, was a  Hong Kong film actor and musician. Cheung was considered as “one of the founding fathers of  Cantopop,” and “combining a hugely successful film and music career”.

In 2000, Cheung was named Asian Biggest Superstar by China Central Television, and voted/ranked the 1st as The Most Favorite Actor in 100 Years of Chinese Cinema in 2005. Recently, he was voted the third of the CNN’s “top five most iconic musician of all time” placing behind Michael Jackson and The Beatles.

Futhermore from Wikipedia, Cheung committed suicide on 1 April 2003 at 6:41 pm (HKT). He leapt from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, located in the Central district of Hong Kong Island. He left a suicide note saying that he had been suffering from depression. He was 46 years old.

As one of the most popular performers in Asia, Cheung’s death shocked the Asian entertainment industry and Chinese community worldwide. The day after Leslie’s death, his family confirmed that Cheung suffered from (clinical) depression and had been seeing psychiatrists for treatment for almost a year. They also revealed that Cheung had attempted suicide in 2002. Later at his funeral, Cheung’s niece disclosed that her uncle had severe clinical depression and suffered much over the past year (2003).

Despite the risk of infection from SARS and the Who’s warning on travels to Hong Kong, tens of thousands attended Cheung’s memorial service, which was held for the public, on 7 April 2003, including celebrities and other fans, many from other parts of the world such as mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, the United States and Canada. Cheung’s funeral was on 8 April 2003. For almost one month, Cheung’s death dominated newspaper headlines in Hong Kong and his songs were constantly on the air.

Cheung’s last album Everything Follows the Wind (一切隨風) was released three months after his death.

  • Cheung’s suicide note (translation): “Depression! Many thanks to all my friends. Many thanks to Professor Felice Lieh-Mak (Cheung’s last psychiatrist, 麥列菲菲). This year has been so tough. I can’t stand it anymore. Many thanks to Mr. Tong. Many thanks to my family. Many thanks to Fei-Fei  (Lydia Shum Din-ha). In my life I did nothing bad. Why does it have to be like this?”
  • Cheung’s suicide note (Chinese): “Depression! 多謝各位朋友,多謝麥列菲菲教授,這一年很辛苦,不能再忍受, 多謝唐先生,多謝家人,多謝肥姐. 我一生沒做壞事 為何這樣?”

Following the unveiling of Shu Qi’s scandalous past as a porn actress before her rise to fame, the media is determined to dig up more skeletons in the closet, and Hong Kong actor and martial artist extraordinaire, Donnie Yen, is the latest victim as an online post in several Chinese forums alleged that the star used to be in porn films, according to Daily Chilli.

Titled “Don Yen acted in porn film, surrounded by 10 naked women”, the post has aroused much discussion and debate among netizens. It was made in response to Shu Qi’s withdrawal from the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, after her scandal.

The story goes that before his breakthrough role in “Ip Man”, Yen had appeared in several porn films during the 90’s in order to eke his way in the industry, and one of these films was “The Holy Virgin Versus The Evil Dead”.

“You think only Shu Qi acted in porn? Donnie didn’t? You are wrong! See you all complained that Shu Qi acted in this and that every day, you think Donnie only innocently shot kung fu movies?” wrote the user.

The user added, “I have seen three porn films of Donnie. He has four all together, three of which were horror movies.”

The user also posted a few clips of the film to prove the statements.

Needless to say, this latest controversy reached Yen’s ears, and he responded by posting two lines of lyrics from Sam Hui and the late Leslie Cheung’s song “Silence is Golden”, which was, “Let people laugh and scold as they like, be a carefree person.”

Yen is set to appear in “The Monkey King” next, which will be released in China on 7 July, but is currently undated in Malaysia and Singapore.
