Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of the Republic of Korea (commonly known as South Korea. As the 4th most economically powerful city in the world, measured by GDP,Seoul is one of Asia’s major centers of cultureentertainment, and research, with additional strengths in the artscommerceeducationfinancemediaservices, and tourism.

History: Settlement of the Han River area, where present-day Seoul is located, began around 4000 BC. Seoul is first recorded as Wiryeseong, the capital of Baekje (founded in 18 BC) in the northeastern Seoul area.

 Festivals:  In October 2012 KBS Hall in Seoul hosted major international music festivals – First ABU TV and Radio Song Festivals within frameworks of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union 49th General Assembly. Hi! Seoul Festival is a seasonal cultural festival held four times a year every spring, summer, autumn, and winter in Seoul, South Korea since 2003. It is based on the “Seoul Citizens’ Day” held on every October since 1994 to commemorate the 600 years history of Seoul as the capital of the country. The festival is arranged under the Seoul Metropolitan Government. As of 2012, Seoul has hosted Ultra Music Festival Korea, an annual dance music festival that takes place on the 2nd weekend of June.

Airports: Two international airports, Incheon International and Gimpo International, serve Seoul.

Gimpo International Airport opened in 1939 as Japanese Imperial Army airfield, and opened for civil aircraft in 1957. Since opening of Incheon International, Gimpo International handles scheduled domestic flights along with selected short haul international shuttle flights to Tokyo HanedaOsaka KansaiTaipei SongshanShanghai Hongqiao, and Beijing Capital.

Incheon International Airport, opened in March 2001 in Yeongjong island, is now responsible for major international flights and some domestic shuttle flights. Incheon International Airport is Asia’s eighth busiest airport in terms of passengers, the world’s fourth busiest airport by cargo traffic, and the world’s eighth busiest airport in terms of international passengers in 2014. In 2016, 57,765,397 passengers used the airport.

Universities: Seoul is home to the majority of South Korea’s most prestigious universities, including Seoul National UniversitySungkyunkwan UniversityKorea UniversityYonsei UniversityHanyang UniversitySogang UniversityHankuk University of Foreign StudiesKyung Hee UniversityChung-Ang UniversityEwha Womans UniversityKorea Military Academy, and the University of Seoul.

KBS drama Tomorrow Cantabile star Joo Won left a post of encouragement on his Twitter account, urging fans to watch the drama, which began airing on October 13th.

On October 26th, the popular actor tweeted, Tomorrow Cantabile~ Tomorrow you’ll be able to hear a proper symphony by the hero Beethoven~~ ^^Let’s watch!~”.

Joo Won stars in the new drama as the pianist Cha Yoo Jin opposite of Shim Eun Kyung, who plays Seol Na Il. The two and others showcase their exquisite musical talents and performances in various episodes.

Unfortunately, the drama has drawn lower ratings then expected with the debut episode reaching 8.5%, and has been lowering in subsequent episodes: 7.4%, 5.8% and the fourth episode drawing 6.1% ratings.

Tomorrow Cantabile is a Korean adaptation of the Japanese drama and manga Nodame Cantabile.

BoA recently sang a track titled “Between Heaven and Hell” for the new KBS drama “Shark,” and the music video for this song has finally been released.

The music video for “Between Heaven and Hell” contains scenes from the drama itself and focuses on the childhood of the main characters, specifically the close relationship that develops between the male and female protagonist. Both the scenes in the music video and the song’s melancholic tone hint at the drama’s tragic story line.

Starring actor Kim Namgil and actress Son Yejin, “Shark” is a drama about a man (Kim Namgil) who decides to take revenge for his family, even if it means sacrificing the woman he loves (Son Yejin). The drama airs every Monday and Tuesday on KBS.

On May 15th, XIA Junsu of JYJ released his latest OST track for the KBS drama “Heaven’s Order,” singing the song “Foolish Heart.” The original track, as well as a piano and instrumental version is also included.

“Foolish Heart” is a ballad track that feature a beautiful arrangement of string instruments and piano. Junsu’s strong vocals bring out the true sentiments of the lyrics.
