South Korean pop icon Rain was officially released from mandatory military service Wednesday, with hundreds of fans shedding tears of joy over the star’s comeback.

About 700 devotees from South Korea and abroad exploded into ecstatic cheers as the 31-year-old K-pop star emerged from the defence ministry building in Seoul, where he had gone to receive his discharge papers.

Some banner-carrying fans, weary from camping out overnight in drizzling rain, broke into tears as the star walked out wearing a military uniform.

“Thank you all for coming to welcome me. I’ll do my best. I love you all,” Yonhap news agency quoted the singer as saying, as he gave fans a military salute.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-Hoon, is one of the biggest names in the world of K-pop, which commands a huge following in South Korea, across much of Asia and beyond.

In January, he was confined to barracks for a week after he was caught sneaking out for to meet a love interest while on official duty.

He was dating a Kim Tae-Hee, a TV drama star with a massive following in Japan.

South Korean men are obligated to serve about two years in the country’s armed forces.

Military service is taken extremely seriously in South Korea, which remains technically at war with North Korea because their 1950-53 conflict ended with a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty.

Apart from those with physical disabilities, exemptions are rare and anyone refusing to serve — for moral or religious reasons — faces an automatic jail term.

Celebrities are frequently caught attempting to evade military service for fear they might be forgotten by their fans while in uniform.

“Gangnam Style” star Psy was forced to serve twice after it emerged he had furthered his showbiz interests during his first stint.

Cool’s singer Yuri had been reported dead at the age of 35 by the biggest K-Pop news outlet. It turns she wasn’t even at the scene. However, All Kpop has reported from their sources that Cool’s Kim Sung Soo  former wife was killed.

Here’s the updated news:

After a hectic morning with the initial false report about COOL Yuri‘s death, WS Entertainment has released an official statement regarding the incident.

Through a press release, they stated the following:

“Hello, this is COOL Yuri’s agency WS Entertainment.

As the representative figure of the agency, I can’t hold back the shock and the upset emotions I have felt, and thus have decided to express our position on the matter through email.

This morning, one internet media outlet wrote that COOL member Yuri had passed away due to an unfortunate event.

The media outlet reported that Yuri had been at a bar with an acquaintance when she got into a fight with another individual and had gotten seriously injured, and passed away even though she was rushed to a hospital in Seoul Hannam-dong.

After seeing the article, I frantically gave Yuri a call right away. Luckily, she picked up and it was revealed that she had been at her residence during the time of the incident and that she that she had not been present at the scene. She was totally unaware about what was being reported.

I’m pained and upset about how an article about death can be put out without even one phone call to confirm with the agency. If they had given us just one call, it is something that could have been clarified.

Currently, Yuri is going through a rough time with the events that happened suddenly. In addition, her family as well as other people around her are still worried about her, so we are feeling anxious as well.

This is not just a simple happening, but rather a clear defamation of character and a scary situation on par with murder. As it is a matter dealing with life, we will be taking legal action against the reporter who first broke the news without confirming.

We hope that the media outlet in question will reveal their official position about how they could kill a person with just one line in an article without even confirming, and issue a correction article.

Thank you.”

The identity of the victim of the reported incident has been revealed to be the former wife of COOL’sKim Sung Soo, Ms. Kang. May she rest in peace.

This is what All K Pop reported: According to All K Pop, Yuri was meeting with Chaerina from a group called ROO’RA. It’s reported that Yuri altercation with someone at the restaurant and was injured during a violent struggle. She was taken to the hospital but sadly, she died.

The assailant is still at large.

Kim Hyun Joong Asia Fan Meeting 2012 Singapore is organised by Running Into The Sun and AMC Group Singapore.

You’ve been to Singapore so many times. What are some of your most memorable moments in Singapore?
Every moment is memorable to me — the number of fans who welcomed me at the airport and gave me their warm reception and support during my stay in Singapore. I also look forward to attending this fan meeting.

You have a song called ‘Lucky Guy’. Do you think you’re a lucky person? Why?
I think I am a very happy person currently, because I can do both music and acting, and is well-loved by people when doing both.

What’s the biggest difference between Hallyu star Kim Hyun Joong and normal guy Kim Hyun Joong?
I feel that Hallyu star Kim Hyun Joong and normal guy Kim Hyun Joong is very different. Hallyu star Kim Hyun Joong tries to show his perfect side to the fans, whereas the normal Kim Hyun Joong leads a normal life just like the others. I spend my time reading cartoons and playing soccer.

What are some of your future plans? Will you be releasing another album, or participate in any drama this year?
I want to be able to do well in both music and acting, and not just focus on one particular area. This year, I plan to have album activities and acting. While preparing for this upcoming fan meeting, I’m also looking at good drama or movie scripts. I’ll try to show my fans a better side, so please look forward to it.

Park Jung-min from the defunct boy band SS501 has asked a court to nullify the exclusive representation agreement he signed with his agency.
The star alleges that CNR Media is not paying him as agreed, but the contract he signed prevents him from working elsewhere.
The agency has only paid Park 150 million won ($132,450), the star said, and he seeks further compensation from the company, though he didn’t specify how much he wants in the court filing.
Since the days of SS501, Park has been active as an actor in Taiwan and Japan. Last year, Park headed concerts in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, over Christmas. But unless his exclusive contract is nullified, he cannot officially sign with another agency.
After five years together, the five members of SS501 decided to separate and pursue individual careers as musicians and actors.
Last year, Park released two EP albums: a dance album by the name of “Not Alone” in January and an eponymous EP in April.

South Korean pop icon Rain will serve as an “entertainment soldier” for the remainder of his two years of compulsory military service, according to the defence ministry.

Rain will appear in television and radio programmes of the Korean Forces Network, a broadcaster run by the ministry to boost morale, and take part in weekly concert tours to military units across the country.

“As he is a singer and dancer, he will do well as an ‘entertainment soldier’,” a ministry official told AFP on Friday.

Fans from across Asia wept last October when the 29-year-old entertainer entered boot camp to start his mandatory military service.

He was said to be adjusting well to military life, being judged a top marksman and groomed to become an assistant instructor.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-Hoon, is a major star in his home country and throughout much of the rest of Asia, where South Korean “K pop” commands a huge following.

All eligible South Korean men must spend about two years in the military. The country has remained technically at war with North Korea since their 1950-1953 conflict ended without a peace treaty.

Most start their spell around the age of 20. But Rain took advantage of a provision allowing famous entertainers to postpone their service.

Yunho and Changmin of TVXQ are in Las Vegas for the 2011 Billboard K-Pop Masters to perform along other music acts. They arrived in style, dressed like models.

JYJ’s Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu should have been invited to this concert event. Why are they not invited? I know they are not allowed to perform on TV in Korea; however,  Las Vegas is NOT Korea. JYJ should be allowed to share the stage alongside the other K-Pop artists.

The five guys should NOT be apart,  all they have to do is find a record label to buy them out of their screwed up contract and reunite.
