Cairo, best known as a Spanish-language TV host and producer, stole patio furniture along with a friend April 29, police said
A Spanish-language television host and producer accused of swiping his neighbors’ furniture slammed the alleged victim’s choice in furnishings as he was arrested on burglary charges Thursday in Doral.
Frank Cairo paused as he was escorted into a police cruiser to tell reporters he makes upwards of a half-million dollars a year, and has no need to steal “Kmart furniture.”
The burglary happened April 29 at the Captiva Residences on Doral Isle. Authorities said the victim caught the robbery of his vacation home on tape.
Doral Police said the victim showed his neighbor’s surveillance video of the break-in, and neighbors identified the 48-year-old Cairo, whose real name is Ivan Valdes, and a friend, Jorge Acuna Arias, 47, as the two men who stole patio furniture from Cairo’s downstairs neighbor’s screened-in patio.
Once Cairo and Acuna were identified, police said Cairo left a note on the victim’s door saying he had the furniture.
“The fact of the matter is, these homeowners were very afraid, ” said Chief Rick Gomez. “How would you feel, as a homeowner, and you’re looking at video, and somebody’s trying to break in your house?”
Cairo bonded out of jail around 3:30 a.m. Friday without speaking with reporters.
Cairo faces burglary charges which could lead to three to five years in prison, but with no prior offenses, authorities said it is possible he may not have to serve a sentence.
According to his website, Cairo has been working for TV Azteca since 2011. He previously worked for Telemundo, Univision and Mega TV.
