The story of Leeteuk’s love triangle with a woman and a chaebol(extremely wealthy) celebrity was featured on this week’s episode of Rumor Has It.

Rumor Has It is a talk show that addresses all the hottest issues in the world of Korean pop culture.

According to the hosts, the incident occurred back in 2006 when Leeteuk was still a rookie idol. Super Junior had debuted in 2005 and was just starting to gain more popularity.

One day, on his way to his schedule, Leeteuk coincidentally ran into a woman who he felt completely in love with at first sight.

As a celebrity, however, it wasn’t easy for him to openly ask a woman out. So what he did was ask his dear friend Shindong to help him out.

Shindong eventually succeeded in getting the woman’s number and Leeteuk began talking to her only to be rejected because of the pressure she felt of dating a celebrity.

The reporter telling the story added that she completely understood the woman as being the girlfriend of an idol was an extremely difficult position whether or not the idol was super wealthy. According to the reporter, even if a celebrity is not in an open relationship, fans know about it and the woman probably knew the hardships that would follow.

That didn’t stop Leeteuk from continuing to pursue her, however. One day, he went to go see the woman in his company car rather than his own so as to reduce the pressure she would feel and prepared a CD filled with songs that she enjoyed listening to.

He approached the woman, who was older than he was, in a way as to make her feel like he was just an ordinary person like her, rather than a celebrity. And as a result of his efforts, the woman eventually accepted the idol and the two began officially dating.

Super Junior’s Sungmin And E.L.Fs Boycott..What Happened?

When Super Junior decided to come out of their two year long hiatus since their last special album released 2015, fans looked forward to everything but member Sungmin‘s return. June of 2017, E.L.Fs stated they will no longer support Sungmin’s promotion with the group and requested that he be removed from the group, or at least from the upcoming activities.

According to the fans, Sungmin failed to communicate with his fans regarding his dating and wedding announcements since 2014. When the fans remained devastated by hearing of his relationship with a musical star Kim Sa Eun through the news, while other members tried to console the fans, Sungmin himself did not make any statements explaining his position.

Shortly after the dating scandal, his wedding plans were revealed, again driving the fans into complete confusion, especially because the scheduled wedding date fell in the middle of the group’s Japan promotions and concerts. Against the persuasion of the agency, members, and fans, Sungmin pushed for his wedding to happen on the planned date.

While E.L.Fs remained patient with the star to interact with his fans to help them understand his decisions, Sungmin continued to ignore the fans’ existence and acted independently. When he banned the keywords “Korean fan” on his blog, Korean E.L.Fs grew outrageous and decided to boycott the idol.

Once the petition to remove Sungmin from the group received a significant amount of support to bring the agency’s attention to it, the sub-label managing Super Junior, SJ Label, announced its decision to listen to the fans’ feedback regarding the group’s direction.

Sungmin himself also acknowledged his past actions and shared his decision to remain idle from the group while it promotes the new album.

“I should have realized my position is unlike any average man’s, as I have been a fan-supported idol for the past decade. I have ignored this fact as I was preparing for my wedding. I understand I should have been a lot more considerate and honest, through the difficult times. This lack of communication must have hurt a lot of my fans and created an irreversible sense of betrayal based on misunderstandings and rumors. I wish the best for Super Junior’s upcoming new album, so I have decided not to participate in the promotions. As I want the group to remain highly beloved, it would not be right for me to promote as a part of the group when there is a lot of controversy surrounding me.” — Sungmin

CLICK HERE TO SEE IF YOUR FAVORITE 2nd GENERATION IDOLS MADE THE LIST

With groups like Girls’ GenerationWonder Girls2NE1 and more closing the curtains, only a handful of 2nd generation K-Pop groups (debuted 2000-2010) continue on. Here is a list of the 2nd generation idol groups who are still active in the industry.

TVXQ! debuted back in December 2003 and has made history throughout their decade. After the departure of JYJ in 2010, the group continued until the members took a hiatus for their military service. With both members having finished their military service last year, the group has been selling out concerts and topping charts with their singles and albums. Their latest Korean album, New Chapter # 1: The Chance of Love, was released earlier this year and immediately debuted at #1 on Gaon’s Album Chart.

Super Junior debuted in November 2005 as 13 members. Even after member changes throughout the years and members undergoing their military service, Super Junior continues to release albums with members who are not in the army or on hiatus from the group due to controversies. Their single from earlier this year, “Lo Siento”, was the first K-Pop song to chart on Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales Chart. The song, which marked Siwon’s return from the military, also debuted at #2 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart.

SHINee debuted in May 2008 and has made history as one of the rare groups to continue strong without a lineup change. Sadly, in an event that rocked not only Korea, but the international community as well, main vocalist Jonghyun took his own life at the end of 2017. The group dedicated numerous songs and performances to their lost friend, and the K-Pop community came together to mourn and pay tribute to him. The group has since released a number of popular singles including, “Good Evening”, “I Want You”, and “Our Page”, from their 2018 album The Story of Light.

“Even though it’s a pity, I couldn’t go to Macau and I might not be able to participate in the activities this time around and record songs. I’ve been thinking a lot about whether or not I should go to Macau, but because of the problems in my leg, it is still hard for me to focus on the activities. My personality is just like this…when I find anything that’s embarrassing or uncomfortable (not being able to show himself perfectly) then I should just not participate (in the activities). That’s why health is the most important… I’m also taking care of Kyuhyun, because we are both stuck with bad health.” — Heechul
